The Staff of the team is dedicated and passionate group that works behind the scenes to make the enduring images and victories of the team's riders possible. Slipstream was born in 2004 as a development team for young US riders. Founder Jonathan Vaughters was a Tour de France veteran started the team with $50,000 of his own money and a vision to build his startup into a Tour de France contender. Financial services company TIAA-CREF was the original team sponsor. In 2006, investor Doug Ellis teamed with Vaughters and increased financing so the team could step up to the next level of professional cycling and the team is now backed by dozens of sponsors including Chipotle and H30.
In 2007, the team raced all over the world. Thanks in part to the spontaneous attacking style of riders like Danny Pate, Team Garmin-Chipotle presented by H3O is now one of the most-respected teams in pro cycling. The team’s fearless riding style—in tandem with its distinctive orange and blue argyle clothing—made the squad a favorite with fans and media alike.
In 2008 Slipstream increased its budget to rival those of the biggest teams in the world and signed some of the top names from tier-one European teams.
The team U.S. Headquarters is in Boulder, Colorado and its European Headquarters is in Girona Spain.
