The second week of the Giro d’Italia began with a 39.8-kilometer individual time trial in Sagrantino. Davide Formolo started stage 10 in the best young rider’s white jersey he earned following Sunday’s Blockhaus stage. The Italian is in his element in the mountains. The race against the clock? He’s actively working to improve his skills in a discipline that’s outside his comfort zone.
On Tuesday, Formolo managed 39th place, 4:04 slower than the time posted by stage winner and new maglia rosa Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb). With Bob Jungels (Trek-Segafredo) slotting into third place on the stage, Formolo was forced to cede the white jersey to the Luxembourgish champion.
Now 13th overall, Formolo will look to take back time and the white jersey in the upcoming Alpine stages.
